8ve (octave) oscillator Lite gives easy access to a variety of test tones for quick hearing testing, room acoustic testing and equipment testing, but with limited possibilities. The frequency of the test tomes can be changed in octave steps and the output level can be varied in decibel steps but to a lesser extent than is possible in the full version (8ve oscillator).

Octave oscillator Lite produces the same test waveforms as the full version (sine, pulse, square, sawtooth and triangular as well as noise) at fundamental frequencies that are spaced in octaves covering the hearing range (250 Hz, 500 Hz, 1 kHz, 2 kHz, 4 kHz, and 8 kHz) - note that 125 Hz and 16 kHz are only available in the full version. These frequencies (except 16 kHz which is available only in the full version) are used in hearing testing as well as for testing room acoustics and equipment testing. The 16 kHz is a special case; this frequency is used as a "teen scarer" or "mosquito" tone because it can typically only be heard by those under 25 years of age.

The signals are generated at CD quality using 16 bit PCM "wav" format harmonic synthesis (within the Nyquist rate) at a sampling frequency of 44.1 kHz. The signal plays until the user presses the "Stop" button.

The output level is controlled in using a calibrated decibel attenuator in selectable steps of 6 dB - note that steps of 1 dB, 3 dB and 10 dB are available additionally in the full version; (1 dB is about the minimum step we can hear; -3 dB (+3 dB) is an intensity halving (doubling); -6 dB (+6 dB) is an acoustic pressure halving (doubling) and -10 dB (+10 dB) is an average halving (doubling) in perceived loudness).

If you are interested in the pipe organ, you might like to try "Organ Stops" which is another of my Apps. It enables all manual and pedal stop footages to be dialed up along with over 900 stop names and the pitch of bottom C for each footage can be heard including the 128 pedal rank!
